Getting fed up with Trados ...

I already went away from Windows approx. a year ago, but we still have one old Windows computer here. The one I was using for a job, because there Trados was requested. I have one of those old versions and I can work with it only on an old computer, because it has a parallel port dongle - so my laptop would not even be able cope with that bit.

I have been working on a 53 pages document ... every now and then one has to work, right? So ... you work and translate happily ... and then the first "software error" ... argh ... so you take your clean document and have an automatic retranslation  but of course there are all these bits and pieces you joined, right? well that needs to be done again ... and therefore you need to check the whole bit again.

You get through and think: nice, I can go ahead and you do so for another hour and then: the same story again. And I am talking about a very normal document where only a lot of merging needs to be done because it is text extracted from a pdf file and who works with these knows: it has plenty of hard returns you actually don't need.

Now there is only one Open Source software  which produces exactly the same way to tag documents, but has less options and features, because it is really new: Anaphraseus - it is very similar to Wordfast in its early days, but works with OpenOffice.org. So now I decided to go that way ... because I am quite annoyed by the actual way of working. I'll let you know. The only thing I need to do first now is the conversion from tmx to a Wordfast memeory ... well that should not be too difficult ... and then hopefully I will be able to work without interruptions ...
