Euphemism is pronounced as U (as You) [emphasized] + F or Ph (from Phone) + Mism {Listen to it here}
It is derived from Greek Euphemismos [ = Eu (good) + Pheme (speech)] meaning to speak with pleasing words.
Situational Uses:
- In his effort to be extremely polite, he chose to be euphemistic too.
- The phrase “collateral damage” is a euphemism for injury to civilians during a military operation.
