Yesterday evening was incredible. From one second to the other this desk became busy, because finally something seems to move just before Christmas.

We received a promise that one of the main documents needed for Nikolay's surgery will be ready on Friday (well, the date is to be taken approximative, but at least: there's the promise). Then: the pre-treatment is now possible in Ukraine (even this: we need to be cautious, but that is the information we have for now). 

I just called the hospital in Germany to get the name of the cream we need to send to Ukraine for the pre-treatment and the invitation letter so that we will be also able to prepare the next step: the German embassy.

Now I am sitting here, writing this and the tension of the last weeks is getting less ... up to now it was just that "emergency, we need to resolve this problem" and now I am starting to realize what actually could have happened, what did not happen and hopefully will never happen: that we cannot get Nikolay to Germany for the surgery and assure him a more or less normal life. 

Maybe you find it strange, because we should get used to such situations, but I am sitting here with tears in the eyes and ask myself if it is not the case, also for us adults, to still believe in Christmas.
