Localisation
ANLoc needs your help
Submitted by Sabine Eller on Tue, 09/08/2009 - 10:45The African Network for Localization (ANLoc) is seeking immediate
help to create Locales for 100 African languages. You can view a
description of the project at http://www.it46.se/afrigen
You can help in one of three ways:
-> volunteer to work on a locale yourself (the project will help you every step of the way!)
-> play matchmaker - introduce someone who can volunteer for their language
Virtaal - TM features
Submitted by Sabine Eller on Wed, 06/17/2009 - 09:23I thought about this a bit longer: actually it is not good to immediately send translations to the TM without having the possibility to replace it. When you translate, even in your mother tongue, and even if you know the subject 100% well often, when re-reading one rephrases certaing parts, just to have things "flow nicer". This means that if the translation has already been stored in the TM you have the problem that you need or 1) to overwrite that segment or 2) at least to be able to edit it manually.
Play Station 2 games in Neapolitan ???
Submitted by Sabine Eller on Tue, 03/31/2009 - 19:54Today was a very busy day and finally also the kids had some time to play and so they chose a quite new playstation game called "Catz". I looked at them and saw they were using the German version of the game and so I said "ahhh ... you are using German". My son, like always needs to explain mom who according to him does not know enough about playstation games "well this game in its main settings has more languages: German, English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese but no Neapolitan" :-) it was hilarious ...
A hard rain is gonna fall
Submitted by Bèrto ëd Sèra on Fri, 10/17/2008 - 01:56These days the usual talk is about the economy. And it's a gloomy talk. Now, I cannot stop thinking that economy is mostly like the weather, as both are chaotic systems that make predictions an extremely difficult task. The main difference is that clouds don't read the met, while we actually do. So when the met says "a hard rain is gonna fall" us clouds may well end up believing it... Anyway, nothing is 100% nice or bad, not even a recession.
Glossaries and Translation memories
Submitted by Sabine Eller on Tue, 04/01/2008 - 14:24In this book we will collect translation memories and glossaries which were created for the translation of our contents. Most translations are being now carried out by using Anaphraseus, a CAT-Tool which allows for the use of ISO 639-3 codes for the translation memory. Please also note that the source texts or target texts may have changed after the actual translation. This means: changes and improvements can occur anytime so that the provided translation memory or also the terminology used in the glossaries could be different.
The OmegaWiki story
Submitted by Sabine Eller on Tue, 03/11/2008 - 17:03Well being one of the initiators of OmegaWiki I think it is time to start writing down how everything started, integrating step by step our adventure in the world of words and dictionaries.
I'd like to dedicate this book to some very special people, those who in some way changed and are changing my life and therefore they will be mentioned only when things are ready.
Effect Betawiki
Submitted by Bèrto ëd Sèra on Fri, 07/13/2007 - 13:43Betawiki is the site on which most of the mediawiki software localization is dealt with. It was born mainly to localize mediawiki, but lately it has started to be seen as a valuable resource for other Open Source Projects. This eventually led to manage the localization of a free Colonization clone called Freecol on the same site.
